Congratulations on your new white smile! Following these instructions will help ensure the success of your Pola In Office Whitening.
After Care Instructions
- Do not smoke for 48 hours
- Avoid foods and beverages that stain (red sauce, berries, juice, coffee, tea, etc.)
- Long-term results vary from patient to patient. We recommend touch-up treatments every 6 months to retain color. See instructions below for how to use your take-home trays and Pola Night Gel at home.
What to Expect After Treatment
- Mild sensitivity to hot or cold liquids may occur. This usually passes within 1 – 2 days. If sensitivity persists, we recommend taking over the counter pain medication. We recommend combining two Ibuprofens (such as Motrin) with two Acetaminophens (such as Tylenol).
- If you experience gum sensitivity do not brush the afflicted area while brushing your teeth.
- Immediate whitening results can be quite dramatic due to minor dehydration of your teeth. It is normal for the color to tone down somewhat after treatment when your teeth rehydrate to a natural white tone.
At Home Instructions for Use of Trays and Pola Night Gel
Pola Night is a high viscosity, ph neutral, take-home whitening gel containing 22% carbamide peroxide. The pleasantly flavored, crystal-clear, sustained release gel has a unique blend of conditioners and a water content high enough to reduce sensitivity.
Treatment Guidelines
Gel can be used 1 time per day for 45 minutes. Quantity of gel should last for 14 uses. Patients with sensitivity will require a day or two break between treatments. Shortening treatment time is also suggested for those with sensitivity.

Additional Tips
- Whitening is not a once in a lifetime event – your results will fade over time. How long the whitening lasts varies between each individual and depends on a number of factors, including: age, starting tooth shade, history of trauma to teeth, diet, oral hygiene, and tobacco use.
- We recommend maintaining your whitening results with a touch up syringe of gel once every 6 months. Whitening is most effective on teeth that are being cleaned professionally at least every 6 months.
