We Start by Getting to Know You

Your first visit begins with a one-on-one conversation with Dr. Christopher Omeltschenko.

Before examining your teeth, Dr. O takes the time to learn about:

  • Your dental history
  • Previous dental experiences
  • Current concerns
  • Oral health goals
  • Questions you may have about your smile or treatment options

We believe understanding the patient is just as important as understanding the teeth.

Understanding Our Total Oral Health Philosophy

One of the first things Dr. O discusses with new patients is our philosophy of Total Oral Health Dentistry.

Rather than focusing on individual teeth alone, we evaluate three key areas:

Healthy teeth help you chew comfortably, speak clearly, and support long-term oral health.

A healthy bite helps reduce excessive stress on teeth and supporting structures.

A healthy bite helps reduce excessive stress on teeth and supporting structures.

Comprehensive Examination and Diagnostic Records

After discussing your goals and reviewing our approach to oral health, we gather the information needed to evaluate your current condition.

This typically includes:

  • Comprehensive dental examination
  • Digital X-rays
  • Intraoral photographs
  • Gum health evaluation
  • Bite analysis
  • Oral cancer screening

These records allow us to evaluate the health of your gums, teeth, and bite while identifying areas that may benefit from treatment or monitoring.

A typical new patient examination appointment lasts approximately 60 minutes. Patients with multiple concerns, complex dental histories, or extensive treatment needs may require additional time so we can thoroughly evaluate their oral health and answer questions.

We believe comprehensive diagnosis takes time, and we want every patient to leave with a clear understanding of their oral health and available treatment options.

Reviewing Your Findings Together

Once the examination is complete, we return to the consultation room to review the findings together.

Using your digital X-rays and photographs, Dr. O explains:

  • What we found
  • Areas of concern
  • Areas that are healthy
  • Potential future risks
  • Available treatment options

Our goal is to help you understand your oral health—not simply tell you what treatment you need.

Many patients tell us this is one of the most valuable parts of their first visit because they can actually see and understand what is happening in their mouth.

What About My Cleaning?

Most new patients begin with a comprehensive examination and diagnostic records appointment.

Professional cleaning appointments are typically scheduled separately. This allows us to fully evaluate your oral health and determine which type of cleaning or periodontal treatment is most appropriate before treatment begins.

Our goal is to provide the right care based on your individual needs rather than assuming every patient requires the same treatment.

What If I Haven’t Been to the Dentist in Years?

You’re not alone.

Many of our new patients have not seen a dentist for several years. Some have been putting off care because of busy schedules, anxiety, financial concerns, or uncertainty about what they might hear.

Our focus is not on judging past decisions. Our focus is on helping you understand your current oral health and creating a plan that helps you move forward.

Understanding Treatment Options and Costs

If treatment is recommended, we will discuss available options and answer any questions you may have. In many cases, estimated fees and insurance benefits can be reviewed during your first visit so you can better understand the financial aspects of care.

For patients with more extensive treatment needs, a separate treatment planning appointment may be recommended. This allows Dr. Omeltschenko and our treatment coordinator to review options in greater detail, discuss sequencing and timing, and help you develop a plan that fits your goals and budget.

We believe patients make the best decisions when they fully understand both their oral health and their available treatment options.
